In the isocortex, striking numbers of retrogradely marked cells were found in the prelimbic and anterior cingulate areas in addition to the substantial labeling in the infralimbic, secondary motor, ectorhinal, perirhinal, and ventral orbital areas and in the rostral pole of the claustrum (Fig. 3A-D, J-L). Most of the cortical labeles cells were pyramidal neurons in layer V; however, particularly in the infralimbic, prelimbic, and anterior cingulate areas, conspicuous numbers of marked cells also extended into layer VI (Fig. 3A-D).

General description technique/protocol: In four experiments, the deposit of the tracer appeared to be fairly confined to the PRC. The appearance of a representative CTb injection site in the PRC is shown in Figure 2....The results of this experiment are described in detail, because the injection site virtually was confined to the PRC and, at the same time, involved most of the nucleus.
