Annotation: A total of 14 male rats (Std:Wistar; Shizuoka Lab. Animal, Japan), weighing 175 to 227 g were used for the immunohistochemical investigation. Additionally, two normal rats were sacrificed for comparable histological analysis by staining preparations with 0.1 5% thionin (Sigma).

Annotation: The primary antibody employed in the present study was a monoclonal antibody raised against ChAT from hog brain (Boehringer Mannheim GmbH); its specificity has been well characterized (Eckenstein and Thoenen, '82). The antibody has been used for immunohistochemical localization of cholinergic elements in various species (Eckenstein and Sofroniew, '83; Carlsen and Heimer, '86; Rao et al., '87; Stichel and Singer, '87; Ojima et al., '88a and others). .. immunohistochemical staining with the unlabeled antibody peroxidase-antiperoxidase (PAP) method (Sternberger, '79).

Anatomy and histology

Staining type: thionin Sampling: 1:5 Annotation: All sections from six sagittally cut cerebella and every fifth section from five sagittally and three coronally cut cerebella were subjected, in a free-floating manner, to immunohistochemical staining with the unlabeled antibody peroxidase-antiperoxidase (PAP) method (Sternberger, '79). Some sections were counterstained with 0.1 % thionin.
