Bed nuclei of the stria terminalis juxtacapsular nucleus | Nucleus accumbens |
fibers of passage | PHAL | Most of...axons continue through the anteroventral area of the BST into the nucleus
accumbens, whereas only a few scattered fibers leave the caudal BST to enter the ventral substantia innominata (Fig. 4D-F) . Axons within the anteroventral BST and nucleus accumbens may be primarily fibers of passage because they generate few boutons | Dong H., Petrovich G.D., Swanson L.W., 2000 |

General description technique/protocol: Two injections are centered in midrostrocaudal levels of the nucleus, and are almost entirely confined within its borders (Fig. 1; BST55 and BST99) , whereas the third is centered in the rostral tip of the nucleus Fig. 1; BST42 . The results of experiment BST55 (Figs. 1 and 2) are illustrated in detail; its projection pattern is indistinguishable from that labeled in the other two experiments with injections restricted almost entirely to the BSTju. In experiment BST55, the only spread of the effective injection site was to several labeled neurons in the BSTov. |
