From the BSTtr injection site, abundant PHAL–labeled axons extend ventromedially and caudally through medial regions of the BSTif and caudal end of the BST anterior division ventral nucleus. In both regions considerable branching and boutons are found; the remaining axons then enter the anterior hypothalamic area (Figs. 6I,J, 7B'').

General description technique/protocol: Finally, the BSTtr was heavily labeled in experiment BST100, with slight contamination in adjacent regions of the BSTif, BST anterolateral area, and substantia innominata (Figs. 1D,D', 2).
