A small number of BSTtr axons also extend laterally from the pontine central gray to innervate lightly the lateral and medial divisions of the parabrachial nucleus, particularly its central lateral and ventral lateral parts (Fig. 6BB,CC), and ventrally from the pontine central gray to enter the pontine reticular nucleus (Fig. 6BB,CC), course through the gigantocellular and parvicellular reticular nuclei (Fig. 6DD,EE), and end in the ventral medullary reticular nucleus (Fig. 6FF). Boutons are generated in all of these reticular nuclei.

General description technique/protocol: Finally, the BSTtr was heavily labeled in experiment BST100, with slight contamination in adjacent regions of the BSTif, BST anterolateral area, and substantia innominata (Figs. 1D,D', 2).
