Throughout the entire length of the reticular core of the brainstem, only a few labeled axons were observed that could be traced to the medial part of the nucleus of the solitary tract and dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus.

General description technique/protocol: In five experiments, the PHA-L injection labeled neurons confined almost entirely to the RCHb, immediately in front of the arcuate nucleus, underneath the third ventricle. In all of these cases, a very similar pattern of anterogradely labeled fibers was observed. The appearance and location of PHA-L-labeled cells for a representative injection are shown in Fig. 1. Collator note: the injection appears to be made at Atlas Level 25, Swanson rat brain atlas.
