A few labeled fibers from the RCHb passing through the rostral pole of the periaqueductal gray split off to project to the pretectal region and several thalamic nuclei, including the lateral posterior nucleus, lateral geniculate body and medial geniculate body.

General description technique/protocol: In five experiments, the PHA-L injection labeled neurons confined almost entirely to the RCHb, immediately in front of the arcuate nucleus, underneath the third ventricle. In all of these cases, a very similar pattern of anterogradely labeled fibers was observed. The appearance and location of PHA-L-labeled cells for a representative injection are shown in Fig. 1. Collator note: the injection appears to be made at Atlas Level 25, Swanson rat brain atlas.
