40681 Lateral hypothalamic areaDorsal premammillary nucleus strongCTB
...a cluster of marked cells was found in the lateral hypothalamic area immediately dorsal to the supraoptic nucleus, in a region that seems to overlap with the main site of projection of the lateral component of the retinohypothalamic tract (Figs. 3F,G, 4C).

40682 Lateral hypothalamic areaDorsal premammillary nucleus strongPHAL
In one experiment, a PHAL deposit was virtually confined to the region densely targeted by the lateral component of the retinohypothalamic tract, which was labeled in the same experiment with a CTb deposit in the contralateral eye, and a dense plexus of PHAL anterogradely labeled fibers could be observed in the PMd (Fig. 6).

40683 Lateral hypothalamic areaDorsal premammillary nucleus strongCTB
...at caudal levels of the anterior hypothalamic nucleus, a prominent cluster of labeled cells was also found just ventral to the fornix in the intermediate region of the lateral hypothalamic area (Figs. 3H,I, 4A).

40688 Lateral hypothalamic areaDorsal premammillary nucleus moderate/strongCTB
...at caudal levels of the tuberal region, a cluster of retrogradely labeled cells was also found in the lateral hypothalamic area, immediately ventral to the fornix (Fig. 3K).

General description technique/protocol: The distribution of neurons that project to the PMd was examined by using CTb as a retrograde tracer. As shown in Figure 1, in three experiments, the deposit of tracer appeared to be fairly confined to the PMd. The photomicrograph of a representative CTb injection site in the PMd (experiment CTb/CC#6) is shown in Figure 2, and the distribution of retrogradely labeled neurons from this experiment is illustrated schematically in Figure 3. The results of this experiment are described in detail because the injection site was entirely confined to the PMd and, at the same time, produced a robust retrograde labeling. Furthermore, the pattern of retrograde labeling in this experiment was representative of that seen in each of the other experiments with deposits centered in the PMd.
