PhAL-labelled fibers were particularly abundant within the frontal cortex (Fr2) and the agranular insular cortex. Perirhinal efferents to both these areas were most prominent in layers I and II, although fibers within layers VI through III also branched extensively and displayed end terminal varicosities (Fig. 5). Collator note: dorsal anterior insular cortex is labeled strongly rostrocaudally. See Fig 4A-D, Swanson Atlas Levels 4-10.
